Welcome From Your 2020/21 Captian David Roberts.

Firstly, I want to thank Craig Walker for all the hard work he has done as Captain over the past year, Last year was a very positive one for the club and Craig successfully kept our Men’s team in the first division of the North Durham Golf league. Well done to Craig and the Ravensworth Men’s Team!

Obviously 2020 hasn’t started the way we would all have expected with the onset of COVID-19 but we, as a Club, have had to adhere to the governments guidelines and STAY SAFE! I am sure we will be back soon playing the game we all love (sometimes!). It is for this reason I will be Captain for the remainder of this season and all of next year, you don’t get rid of me that easy!

To be your new club captain is a huge honour and to take on the role 36 years after my dad Allan Roberts R.I.P. became club captain in 1984 means even more. I think, as far as I know that it is the first time a Father and Son have been Captain of Ravensworth Golf Club.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been a member of Ravensworth since 1978 and have been a regular at the club ever since. I have made many life long friends within this great club and hopefully this year (and next) I will make many more!

Sponsorship plays a vital role in any Captains tenure and I would like to personally thank the sponsors of the Men’s Team kit for this year and next, STOVRITE, APOK and AMA. Their help is invaluable, THANK YOU.

I would also like to introduce Peter Whybrow as your new vice-captain and I’m delighted that Peter has accepted the role for this year and next. He has served for many years on the committee and I’m sure Peter will make a great captain when his time comes.

Finally, thanks to all of you, the members, for your support of Ravensworth Golf Club. We have a fantastic course in a great location, a growing membership, excellent facilities, and a great community who come together to play golf. I do think we can be guilty of getting caught up with the negatives instead of celebrating the positives, but a healthy golf club relies on a strong membership and I would like to think that we can all help the club by being positive ambassadors especially at this difficult time. The more we can all talk up the club, the more people we can attract, and the busier we can be. It’s your club, be proud of it. It’s a great place to be when we’re all pulling in the same direction. Members are the heartbeat of the Club and I ask you all to support the Team, Committee and Club.

Enjoy your golf this season. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and I look forward to playing golf with as many of you as possible this year and next.
